Fiber-Reinforced Concrete

Recent Advancements In Design And Applications

New developments in materials technology and design guidelines have expanded the applications of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC). Fibers are made with different materials and can provide different levels of crack control and tensile/flexural capacity for a concrete section. Some of the applications of FRC include concrete paving, residential and industrial floors, topping slabs, and reinforced shotcrete. ACI 544.4R-2018: “Guide for Design with Fiber-Reinforced Concrete” is a recent publication with state-of-the-art information of fibers. This presentation will review key aspects of FRC, the related ACI guides on design & specification and how they affect everyday applications.  Recent new DOT specifications for fiber reinforced concrete in the western states will also be covered.

About Our Speaker:

Jeffrey Ferris graduated from Purdue University in 1977 and began his career in synthetic fiber reinforced concrete in 1984, which marked the initial introduction of synthetic fibers into the concrete industry. With this background in fibers, he has participated in the evolvement of the product to current state of the art practices.  He has been employed as a “Fiber Concrete Specialist” by Euclid Chemical since 2012. Responsibilities include involvement and oversight of fiber reinforced applications in the Western US. Jeff is past President of the San Diego ACI Chapter and a current member of this chapter. He been on the Board of Directors of the Southern California ACI Chapter and was their Educational Committee Chair. He participated in the writing of Section:201-2.3 “Fiber Reinforcement” for the “New Materials & Methods” Subcommittee for “Greenbook” (Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction)

Please plan to join us and bring other Southern Arizona industry peers with you.  This meeting will have an hour of networking with Registration beginning at 10:00 a.m.   For those who have limited time, you can join us for the lunch and presentation beginning at 11:30 and we plan to adjourn the meeting at 1:00.  This allows for the sponsors to share their company/products that may be new since you last visited with them.  We normally have a full house, so please register early to reserve your spot!

SPONSORSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR $150 TO HELP KEEP THESE MEETINGS FREE FOR THE TUCSON AREA.   Currently we have:  Euclid Chemical, Oremus Materials, WallCon, Ninyo and Moore and CalPortland as sponsors!  Sign up before September 16th to be included and have a table top at the meeting!
