American Society of Concrete
Contractors Position Statements

Presented by: Bruce Suprenant, P.E., PhD
                     ASCC Technical Chair,
                       Concrete Engineering Specialists, LLC

The American Society of Concrete Contractors publishes 39 one-page Position Statement papers covering such topics as “Moisture-Sensitive Floor Coverings on Concrete Slabs,” “Birdbaths,” “Tolerances,” and “Trowel Marks.” The statements are written for architects, engineers and others who need to understand the contractor’s point of view. There are eight Position Statementson decorative concrete topics.

One of the benefits of being a member of the Arizona ACI Chapter is access to download these papers for free from the AZACI web site. How can Members best use these statements?  Some contractors attach the statements to their bid as an explanation for changes in contract scope or exclusions that are needed to limit their risk. Other contractors bring the position statements to preconstruction conferences and give copies to all members of the construction team. This approach allows all parties to discuss the issues before they become problems. The position statements also can be used to address problems during or after construction.

ASCC Technical Committee Chair, Bruce Suprenant, P.E., PhD., with Concrete Engineering Specialists, LLC., will discuss the Position Statements along with their effects on the industry and the potential benefits that a contractor or supplier can get when they use the documents properly.

The monthly ACI lunch meetings are very well attended and typically sell out, so please register in advance. These meetings are a great opportunity to network, as well as to brush up on your technical knowledge. Check in begins at 11:30, followed by lunch and the presentation at noon. We work to get you back on the road by 1:00 pm.

All registrations are done on-line. When you complete your on-line registration you will receive an emailed invoice and are then given the option of paying on-line or using the invoice to pay by check.
